The Hub

The Hub is a YPL’s Adult Services Department’s digital magazine.

Last summer, the library did some soul searching – which means we met with a strategic planning organization that helped us look at ourselves very closely.  One of the questions they kept asking us was, “What does the community need from a public library in this day and age?” Then they asked an even more important question: “What will the community need a public library to be five years from now?” For almost a year, we held focus groups and sent out surveys in the hopes that the community itself could help us answer those questions, and what came back was incredibly exciting.

Of course, a lot of people mentioned books and computers and other resources, but again and again we head from our patrons and from people who don’t use the library a whole lot, is that the Yorkville Public Library is becoming/should become/will need to be a community hub.  We thought that was kind of amazing.  The library, a place with no bias, no agenda, no loyalties to this group or that group… simply a place where anyone in the community can come for information, entertainment, social gatherings, to share ideas, to make friends…  That’s why we are calling our new digital magazine, The Hub.

We’d like The Hub to be about more than just the library, but a place where we can share the cool things going on in the community, highlight people with interesting hobbies, talents, and stories, and really help the community get to know all the other people in their neighborhood.
